IRS 2024 PTIN Renewal

The IRS sent a reminder to active tax return preparers that they can now renew

their Preparer Tax Identification Numbers (PTIN) to prepare for the upcoming filing season. Current PTINs expire on Dec. 31, and preparers must have a valid PTIN to prepare a federal tax return or claim a refund for compensation.

Preparers may renew their PTIN online, which takes 15 minutes, or on paper using a that can take up to six weeks to process.
